Bonhams to Offer Jane Birkin's Personal Hermès Birkin Bag in July Sale
Bonhams will offer Jane Birkin's own Hermès Birkin bag in its Designer Handbags and Fashion sale on 20 July at Bonhams Knightsbridge. The bag, estimated at £15,000–20,000, was originally purchased by the current owners at a 2014 charity auction benefiting Anno's Africa. It is accompanied by a letter from Birkin and signed by her in Tipp-Ex on the interior. The bag shows signs of use, including a red cord tied around one handle and bite marks from Birkin's cat.
The Signal
The sale of a Birkin bag owned by its namesake underscores the enduring market for provenance-rich luxury accessories. Birkin's personal customisation and the bag's charity history add layers of desirability for collectors. The auction also features other notable lots, including Chanel bags and a Louis Vuitton steamer trunk, reflecting sustained demand for iconic designer pieces.
