The Facts

Bonhams will hold its Post-War & Contemporary Art and Impressionist & Modern Art sales on November 19 at its New York flagship galleries at 111 West 57th Street, following a 20th & 21st Century Art Evening Sale the prior evening. The Post-War & Contemporary Art sale features Andy Warhol's society portrait 'Mark Leibovitz' (1977), estimated at $100,000–150,000, and a rare group of five Alexander Calder jewelry pieces, led by a circa 1940 necklace estimated at $100,000–150,000. Also on offer are works by Janet Fish, Robert Cottingham, and a fifth offering of Bob Ross paintings on behalf of American Public Television, with proceeds supporting public TV stations. The Impressionist & Modern Art sale is headlined by Maurice de Vlaminck's 'Le port du Havre' (circa 1910–12, est. $70,000–100,000) and includes Lesser Ury's 'Frau im Cafe' (1883, est. $50,000–70,000), unseen in public since 1906, and a double-sided Pablo Picasso work from 1970 (est. $60,000–80,000).

The Signal

The sales span more than a century of art, from Impressionist and Modern masters to post-war and contemporary names, reflecting Bonhams' strategy of offering fresh-to-market works with strong provenance. The Calder jewelry group, held in a private collection for nearly 70 years, and the Ury painting, which survived the Nazi era, underscore the appeal of works with compelling histories. Bonhams holds the world auction record for Janet Fish, set in May 2026, and the Bob Ross offerings continue to tap into a broad collector base, with APT directing all net proceeds to public television.
