Centre Pompidou Loans Peter Doig’s '100 Years Ago (Carrera)' to West Bund Museum in Shanghai
The Centre Pompidou has announced the presentation of Peter Doig’s 2001 large-scale painting '100 Years Ago (Carrera)' as part of the 'Reinventing Landscape' exhibition at the West Bund Museum. The 229 x 359 cm oil on canvas, a key work in the museum's permanent collection, features a solitary figure in a canoe inspired by Allman Brothers Band bassist Berry Oakley and the Carrera island prison. The exhibition contextualizes the work alongside historical references to Henri Matisse, Arnold Böcklin, and Edvard Munch.
