The Facts

On October 29, 2026, Galerie Max Hetzler announced that Rinus Van de Velde has been awarded the Cultish x OFFSCREEN prize for best artistic presentation for his film "A Life in a Day" (2021–2023) at the fifth edition of OFFSCREEN Paris. The prize recognizes the best presentation among a curated selection of artists working with installations, still and moving images. Van de Velde's first dedicated film publication, "Rinus Van de Velde: Films," is now available, featuring film stills, drawings, and a vinyl soundtrack by Joachim Badenhorst. A second volume, "A Fictional Autobiography II" (Hannibal Books), includes a text by A.M. Homes. His solo exhibition "LIVING" is currently on view at Abby Kortrijk, where he gave a talk on February 17, 2026.

The Signal

The award underscores Van de Velde's growing recognition for his film work, complementing his established practice in drawing and installation. The Cultish x OFFSCREEN prize, presented at a fair dedicated to still and moving images, positions his film within a key platform for lens-based art. For collectors, the honor signals the artist's cross-medium appeal and the increasing market traction of his moving-image projects.
