Exhibition Galerie Max Hetzler

On June 18, 2026, Galerie Max Hetzler announced the permanent installation of Hans Josephsohn's 1968 brass sculpture 'Untitled (Ruth)' at the Bibliothek Günther Förg, on view from July 2026. The half-figure work is based on the artist's longtime partner Ruth. The announcement also notes concurrent presentations: the exhibition 'Figural Archetypes' at the Leopold Museum in Vienna, pairing Josephsohn with Herbert Boeckl; the unveiling of a new sculpture garden at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam featuring works by Karel Appel, Josephsohn, and Rebecca Warren; and the permanent display of a 1990 Josephsohn half-figure at the recently reopened Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin.

The Signal

Josephsohn, who died in 2012, has seen a steady increase in institutional recognition in recent years. The simultaneous placement of his work across major European museums — from Vienna to Amsterdam to Berlin — signals a sustained reassessment of his figural sculpture within the post-war canon. Collectors and curators should note the geographic breadth of this institutional push, which strengthens the artist's secondary market standing and may prompt further acquisitions by public collections.
