Galerie Max Hetzler Notes KAWS in Hard Edge Show at Kunstmuseum Schloss Derneburg and Albertina Modern Exhibition
On June 17, 2026, Galerie Max Hetzler reported that KAWS’s work is included in the group exhibition HARD EDGE(D) at Kunstmuseum Schloss Derneburg. The show is installed in the museum’s historic Haupteingang and Rittersaal and examines the evolution of hard edge painting over six decades. KAWS is placed at the centre of KAWS. ART & COMIX at Albertina Modern in Vienna, shown with works by Roy Lichtenstein, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Ad Reinhardt and Joyce Pensato. The artist’s solo exhibition KAWS: FAMILY, his first major museum show on the West Coast, opened at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art on November 15, 2025.
The Signal
The placement of KAWS across these three institutional venues underscores the artist’s established position in museum programming that spans both group surveys of postwar painting and focused retrospectives of his own three-decade output. For collectors and curators, the SFMOMA presentation supplies the most comprehensive public view to date of his drawings, paintings, sculptures and commercial collaborations, while the Vienna and Derneburg inclusions signal continued institutional interest in positioning his practice within broader narratives of Pop and hard-edge traditions.
