Gladstone Gallery Artist Shahryar Nashat to Present Outdoor Installation at Aspen Art Museum
Shahryar Nashat's Raw Is the Red is on view at the Aspen Art Museum from November 21, 2025 to April 26, 2026. The installation on the museum's roof terrace centers on a vitrine containing a meat object image on powder-coated steel beneath acrylic gel, paired with a pink marble obelisk scaled to the artist's height. It is the second presentation of the work, following its debut on the Bluhm Family Terrace at the Art Institute of Chicago in 2022.
The Signal
The shift from Chicago's urban skyline to Aspen's mountain landscape reframes the sculptures as proxies for bodies confronting natural forces, with red and pink tones set against winter tones and mirrored panels reflecting the surroundings. The project signals the artist's continued exploration of bodily presence and projection across institutional contexts, offering collectors insight into how site-specific iterations can alter the work's interpretive weight.
