Exhibition Hauser & Wirth Mar 28, 2026

The Education Lab ‘Our Imaginary World’ at Hauser & Wirth Somerset presented a mural installation created by 130 students aged 7 to 8 from Bruton Primary School, Ditcheat Primary School and Upton Noble C of E Primary School between May 17, 2025 and February 1, 2026. The project drew on Niki de Saint Phalle’s and Jean Tinguely’s approaches to emotional expression and kinetic transformation and formed part of the gallery’s learning program tied to the exhibition Niki de Saint Phalle & Jean Tinguely. Myths & Machines. Since the exhibition opened, 2,603 learners participated in 101 visits that included tours, workshops and 11 public learning events.

The Signal

The program underscores Hauser & Wirth’s approach of linking major artist surveys with sustained community partnerships, offering collectors and curators a model for extending exhibition impact through interactive education. By embedding student work within the Somerset galleries alongside the Saint Phalle and Tinguely presentation, the initiative illustrates how institutions can broaden engagement with Post-War and Contemporary art legacies while generating measurable participation metrics across schools and universities.
