Joël Andrianomearisoa Selected for High Line Plinth Commission in New York

Almine Rech announced that Malagasy artist Joël Andrianomearisoa has been selected among 62 artists who submitted proposals for the seventh and eighth commissions of the High Line Plinth in New York. The Plinth, inaugurated in June 2019, is the first dedicated space on the High Line for rotating monumental contemporary art commissions, presented for 18 months at a time on the Spur above 30th Street and 10th Avenue, inspired by London's Fourth Plinth. Andrianomearisoa's proposal, "SENTIMENTAL GARDEN," involves a participatory process where participants name their favorite flower, which is then translated into a sculptural aluminum form, creating a collective installation that balances fragility and permanence. Public comment on the proposals is open and will inform the curatorial team's selection of finalists for the commissions, which are scheduled for installation in 2029 and 2030.
