Museum Kunsthaus Zürich

Kunsthaus Zürich has received a CHF 30 million initial endowment from Marianne and Martin Haefner to establish the Förderstiftung für bedeutende Ausstellungen des Kunsthauses Zürich. The foundation will provide permanent capital whose investment returns will fund at least one internationally significant temporary exhibition each year. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed and the foundation will be formally established in the course of 2025. The endowment is open to additional patrons and is intended to strengthen the museum’s public-private partnership model.

The Signal

The commitment supplies the Kunsthaus with an independent, recurring revenue stream at a time when many European museums face funding pressure, allowing the institution to plan ambitious solo shows by international artists on a predictable annual basis. For curators and collectors it signals that Zurich will maintain a consistent platform for high-profile presentations, potentially influencing acquisition timing and lending decisions around major touring exhibitions.
