Kunsthaus Zürich Reports 513,162 Visitors in 2024, Deficit Reduced by CHF 56,490
The Facts
Kunsthaus Zürich released its 2024 annual report on April 29, 2025, reporting 513,162 visitors and a reduced deficit of CHF 1,529,489, down from CHF 1,585,979 in 2023—a reduction of CHF 56,490. Own revenue rose significantly: ticket income reached CHF 5,534,047 (up CHF 977,939), rentals and events generated CHF 1,724,919 (+7%), fundraising brought in CHF 3,850,486 (up CHF 1,762,910), and membership fees held stable at CHF 2,651,926 despite a slight membership decline after a price adjustment. The museum’s self-financing ratio remains exceptionally high by national and international standards.
The Signal
The deficit reduction is an early milestone in Kunsthaus Zürich’s multi-year plan to reach a balanced budget by 2027, though structural financing challenges persist—especially given increased operational costs since the expansion wing opened. The museum is developing new partnership and funding models, including pilot projects, to strengthen self-generated income. The annual report will be made public after the general meeting on May 26, 2025.
