Exhibition LACMA Mar 28, 2026

On January 13, 2022, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art announced Artists Inspired by Music: Interscope Reimagined, an exhibition revisiting groundbreaking music through visual art. The show features over 50 artworks by 46 visual artists in dialogue with iconic Interscope Records releases from the last three decades. A majority of the works are newly commissioned and will be presented for the first time. Featured artists include Cecily Brown, Lauren Halsey, Rashid Johnson, Takashi Murakami and Ed Ruscha, with musicians including Dr. Dre, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Nine Inch Nails and Lady Gaga.

The Signal

The exhibition underscores LACMA's strategy of connecting its permanent collection to contemporary popular culture through music-driven commissions. For collectors and curators, the intergenerational scope signals sustained institutional interest in cross-disciplinary practices that translate sonic influence into visual form. This approach may inform acquisition timing around artists already represented in major museum holdings.
