The Facts
On July 28, 2026, Lisson Gallery announced its return to Frieze Seoul with a booth presentation of new and historic works across painting, sculpture, textiles, and photography. The lineup includes artists Olga de Amaral, Huguette Caland, Ryan Gander, Hugh Hayden, Leiko Ikemura, Anish Kapoor, Julian Opie, Dalton Paula, and Hiroshi Sugimoto. Highlights include Hugh Hayden's "The blacker the berry the sweeter the juice" (2026), a powder-coated aluminum skillet work; Anish Kapoor's concave mirror "Tangerine over Red and Spanish and Pagan Gold" (2020); and Hiroshi Sugimoto's "Brush Impression 1617 (River)" (2024) and "Opticks 616" (2023). Also featured are Huguette Caland's "Untitled (Self Portrait)" (1980), Olga de Amaral's "Nébula 16" (2016), a stone mosaic by Pedro Reyes, Leiko Ikemura's "Miko" (2008/2024), Julian Opie's "Year 4 A. (Third Grade A)" (2025), Ryan Gander's animatronic cat, and Dalton Paula's "Baba Egun" (2025).
The Signal
The presentation underscores Lisson's strategy of blending established and emerging international voices at a key Asian art fair, with works that explore perception, identity, and materiality. Kapoor's mirror and Sugimoto's photographic experiments continue to engage spatial and optical themes, while Hayden's skillet series and Paula's portraits reflect deeper social and historical narratives. The combination of Caland's self-portraits and Amaral's textile abstractions highlights a growing market interest in post-war and contemporary women artists from the Middle East and Latin America. The booth also coincides with major Kapoor exhibitions at Palazzo Manfrin in Venice, the Hayward Gallery in London, and the Serlachius Museum in Finland.
