The Facts
The Luma Foundation has presented "STRIP TOWER (962)", a large-scale outdoor sculpture by Gerhard Richter, at Lake Silvaplana in Sils Maria, Engadin. On view from January 2026 for an initial period of three years, the work is part of the foundation's ongoing Elevation 1049 project. The sculpture rises over five meters, consisting of eight interlocking panels covered in brightly striped ceramic tiles. Visitors can enter a cross-shaped interior, experiencing shifting fields of color and light that engage with the Alpine landscape — a region Richter has visited regularly since 1989.
