The Facts
The Kunsthaus Zürich will open 'Evergreens. Selected Works from the Collection' on 11 September 2026, running through 10 January 2027. The exhibition recontextualizes masterpieces from the museum's holdings, including Claude Monet's water lilies, Andy Warhol's 'Big Torn Campbell's Soup Can (Vegetable Beef)', Franz Gertsch's 'Franz and Luciano', Arnold Böcklin's 'Saint Anthony Preaching to the Fish', and Francis Bacon's monumental triptych. Works by Albert Anker, Heidi Bucher, Marc Chagall, Ferdinand Hodler, Oskar Kokoschka, Marlow Moss, Pablo Picasso, Auguste Rodin, Cindy Sherman, Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Jean Tinguely, and others are displayed across 800 m² in the Chipperfield building. Wall texts feature personal reflections from Zurich residents, including celebrities, explaining their chosen favorites.

The exhibition marks a strategic shift for the Kunsthaus, using juxtaposition to generate fresh readings of canonical works—Monet's landscapes alongside Hodler and Gauguin, Tinguely's machine sculpture with H. R. Giger, and Picasso's 'Grand Nu' with Heidi Bucher's 'Das Kanapee'. This approach follows the museum's 'ReCollect!' series and reflects a broader institutional trend toward dynamic, visitor-engaged collection displays. Concurrently, from 27 November 2026 to 18 April 2027, the National Museum of Korea in Seoul will host a separate exhibition of 85 works from the Kunsthaus collection, extending the museum's international reach.
