The Facts
On October 28, 2026, MALBA announced a partnership with the Hispanic Society Museum & Library in New York to expand its Residencia de Escritores Malba (REM) to the United States. Beginning in 2027, one writer from the residency, working in Spanish or Portuguese, will spend a week in New York under the international alliance. The two institutions will also develop a joint agenda of activities to promote Ibero-American literature and strengthen cultural dialogue between Buenos Aires and New York.
The Signal
The arrangement gives the Buenos Aires-based residency a direct foothold in the U.S., widening exposure for Spanish- and Portuguese-language writers and linking a Latin American art museum with a U.S. institution devoted to Hispanic culture. It also signals a growing model of cross-border institutional collaboration, one that pairs cultural diplomacy with concrete programming for writers.
