The Facts
On October 14, 2026, The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced that Danh Vo will create the 2027 Genesis Facade Commission, the eighth in the series. The commission invites artists to produce new works for the four niches of the Beaux-Arts Fifth Avenue façade, engaging the museum’s collection, architecture, and audiences. Vo’s installation will be on view from September 16, 2027, to June 6, 2028. Previous participants include Liu Wei (2026), Jeffrey Gibson (2025), Lee Bul (2024), Nairy Baghramian (2023), Hew Locke (2022), Carol Bove (2021), and Wangechi Mutu (2019). White Cube, which represents Vo, distributed the announcement.
The Signal
The selection of Danh Vo—a Danish-Vietnamese artist known for conceptually charged works addressing identity, colonialism, and migration—places him within a prestigious lineage of contemporary artists in dialogue with The Met’s historic architecture. For collectors and curators, the commission signals institutional backing that often elevates an artist’s secondary market profile; previous Genesis artists such as Wangechi Mutu and Carol Bove have seen sustained gallery demand. The 2027 installation reinforces The Met’s commitment to global contemporary practice on one of its most visible public platforms, offering a rare opportunity for Vo to reach an audience beyond the gallery system.
