The Facts
On October 26, 2026, White Cube announced that the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) will present 'Danh Vo: Ships that pass in the night', the artist’s first solo museum exhibition in Canada. The exhibition opens on November 28, 2026, with a conversation between Vo and art historian and critic Tom McDonough. Vo’s sculptural works combine traditional materials with organic matter, incorporating religious relics and classical fragments. The exhibition is organized by the AGO in collaboration with The Shen Foundation.
The Signal
The AGO exhibition marks a milestone for Vo, whose practice has drawn international attention for its layered engagement with history, migration, and material culture. For collectors and curators, this institutional debut in Canada signals growing North American recognition of Vo’s work beyond his existing museum shows in Europe and Asia. The conversation format for the opening also underscores the gallery’s emphasis on scholarly context, a strategy that may enhance the work’s reception among Canadian and cross-border audiences.
