The Facts
The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA), with support from the Conseil des arts de Montréal (CAM), has launched a call for applications for its Impressions artist residency. The eight-week residency will run from March 22 to May 14, 2027, and is open to a Montreal-based solo artist from an immigrant background who belongs to a cultural community or a visible minority. The selected artist will receive special access to the MMFA's collection, archives, and research resources, along with a $10,000 grant, a $2,000 production budget, and a $1,000 materials budget. Applications must be submitted by December 2, 2026.
The Signal
The residency aims to foster professional development for emerging artists while bringing fresh perspectives to the MMFA's encyclopedic collection of some 47,000 works spanning millennia and global territories. The program reflects the museum's broader commitment to inclusivity and community engagement, as well as its partnership with CAM to support artistic innovation in Montreal. Past laureates have used the residency to develop projects that reinterpret historical works through contemporary lenses, making this a strategic opportunity for artists seeking institutional visibility and curatorial mentorship.
