Mori Art Museum Chairperson Emerita Mori Yoshiko Awarded Honorary OBE by King Charles III
Mori Yoshiko, Chairperson Emerita of the Mori Art Museum and a member of the Board of Directors of Mori Building Company, has been awarded an Honorary OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) by His Majesty King Charles III. The award was presented by Ambassador Julia Longbottom at a ceremony on November 6, 2025, at the British Embassy in Tokyo. The honor recognizes her contributions to UK-Japan cultural and educational exchange, including her stewardship of the Mori Art Museum, which has showcased British artists to millions, and her voluntary service as a Trustee of the Royal Academy of Arts. The late Mori Minoru, founder of the museum, received an Honorary KBE in 2009.
The Signal
The award underscores the deep institutional ties between Japan and the UK in contemporary art, with the Mori Art Museum serving as a key platform for British artists in Asia. Mori Yoshiko's recognition—rare for a Japanese cultural leader—signals the enduring value of cross-cultural patronage and museum leadership in fostering international dialogue. The museum's upcoming Ron Mueck exhibition, opening in late April 2026, continues this trajectory of UK-Japan artistic exchange.
