Appointment Mori Art Museum

Mori Art Museum announced on October 23, 2024, that current Chairperson Mori Yoshiko will retire on December 31, 2024. Mori Kyoko, a member of the museum's Board of Trustees since June 2019, will assume the role of Chairperson on January 1, 2025. Mori Yoshiko will continue to support the institution as Chairperson Emerita. The museum, now in its 22nd year, has staged 64 originally-curated exhibitions since opening in 2003 and serves as a symbol of Roppongi Hills.

The Signal

The leadership transition signals continuity for the museum's 'Art + Life' philosophy, which positions contemporary art as integral to urban and social enrichment. For collectors and curators, the appointment of Mori Kyoko—who also serves as a trustee of the Obayashi Foundation and a board director of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra—suggests a sustained emphasis on cross-sector institutional partnerships. The museum's track record of 64 exhibitions in 22 years underscores its role as a major platform for contemporary art in Tokyo, and the new chairperson's background may further strengthen ties between art, architecture, and cultural philanthropy.
