Serpentine North to Host Major Amar Kanwar Solo Exhibition and Film Premiere in 2026
Serpentine Galleries will present a major solo exhibition of new and existing works by New Delhi-based artist Amar Kanwar at Serpentine North. The exhibition runs September 23, 2026 to January 31, 2027 and marks the premiere of the seven-screen film installation The Charcoal Man. It also includes the feature-length film Such a Morning from 2017 and the multi-screen installation The Peacock’s Graveyard from 2023. Kanwar’s works explore the history of the Indian subcontinent, legacies of decolonisation and Partition, as well as themes of displacement, violence and memory.
The Signal
The exhibition highlights institutional commitment to artists working in moving image who address global issues through regionally specific narratives. For collectors and curators it offers a concentrated view of Kanwar’s progression across two decades, with the new premiere providing a timely addition to his established body of work. The darkened, multi-screen format at Serpentine North reinforces the gallery’s role in presenting contemplative installations that connect personal and historical contexts.
