The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art has named CrossLypka, Em Kettner and Chanell Stone as the recipients of the 2026 SECA Art Award. The three artists were selected by curators Alison Guh and Delphine Sims after a review of more than 140 nominees and studio visits with 16 finalists. The award recognizes Bay Area artists whose work has not yet received substantial recognition from a major institution. The accompanying exhibition will be presented December 12, 2026–May 30, 2027, in SFMOMA’s Art of California galleries, with each artist receiving a dedicated space.

The Signal

The SECA Art Award, established in 1967, has honored more than 90 Bay Area artists with exhibitions and publications at early career stages. CrossLypka’s sculptures, Kettner’s miniature votive works and Stone’s photography and material explorations address themes of interdependence, disability and Black feminist perspectives on place and memory. The curators emphasized the award’s role in supporting local artists amid shifts in the contemporary art landscape, indicating sustained institutional commitment to emerging regional talent.
