Sprüth Magers Announces Jenny Holzer’s First Solo Exhibition in Portugal at Serralves Museum
Jenny Holzer's first solo exhibition in Portugal, titled Wrong Answers, is presented at Museu de Serralves in Porto. The survey traces the American artist's more than forty-year practice from the Truisms and Inflammatory Essays through works in stone benches, sarcophagi, paintings, robotic LED signs and human bones. Curated by Philippe Vergne, director of the museum, the exhibition includes appropriations of redacted government documents and fragmented stone and electronic sculptures that address erasure and censorship.
The Signal
The presentation arrives as visual and textual media saturation increasingly neutralizes meaning, positioning Holzer's text-based works as markers of both language's redemptive power and the violence of information suppression. Institutions already holding her work, including the Museum of Modern Art, Tate and Guggenheim, provide context for the scale of institutional recognition her practice has achieved.
