Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam Appoints Melanie Bühler as Curator of Contemporary Art
Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam has appointed Melanie Bühler as Curator of Contemporary Art effective April 2025. In the role she will develop exhibitions, projects and publications while ensuring scientific accessibility of the collection. Bühler succeeds Karen Archey, who will lead the curatorial team at Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf.
The Signal
Bühler’s prior positions at Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, Frans Hals Museum and as an independent curator across institutions in Washington, Munich and London position her to strengthen the Stedelijk’s engagement with current social issues through its collection and Amsterdam context. Her track record of projects on Post-Internet discourse and family structures signals continued emphasis on critical, theory-informed programming that links emerging artists with historical holdings.
