The Facts
On April 24, 2026, the Stedelijk Museum announced the selected proposals for its biannual exhibition "Proposals for the Museum Collection 2026: Bring Your Own Book." The exhibition features 20 projects by artists and collectives including Augustinas Milkus, Susu Lee, Jordi de Vetten, Glenda Martinus, Rudsel Martinus, Jörgen Gario, Quinsy Gario, Wapke Feenstra, Merel Severs, Sam Zanardo, Batya Brown, Nadine Stijns, Melissa Strangio, and others. The museum received 746 submissions through an open call. A jury comprising artist duo Bik Van der Pol, Ebissé Wakjira, Lara Khaldi, and Lauren Alexander, together with Stedelijk curators Claire van Els and Thomas Castro, made the selection. The exhibition is financially supported by the Municipality of Amsterdam.
The Signal
The biannual Proposals for the Museum Collection program underscores the Stedelijk's commitment to emerging and socially engaged art practices, with a strong emphasis on participatory and community-driven projects. The high volume of submissions—746—signals robust interest among artists working in collaborative and interdisciplinary formats. For collectors and curators, the selected projects offer a snapshot of current trends in Dutch and international contemporary art, particularly around themes of solidarity, local production, and collective authorship. The jury's composition, spanning institutional and independent perspectives, adds credibility to the selection and highlights the museum's effort to broaden curatorial voices.
