Stedelijk Museum Announces Yayoi Kusama Retrospective for 2026 in Collaboration with Fondation Beyeler, Museum Ludwig
The Stedelijk Museum announced a retrospective of Yayoi Kusama on Dec 10, 2024. The exhibition opens September 11, 2026 and runs until January 17, 2027. It surveys more than seven decades of work in painting, sculpture, installations, drawing, fashion, collage, happenings and performances. The show is organized with Fondation Beyeler in Basel and Museum Ludwig in Cologne and includes historic works never shown in Europe plus new pieces created for the occasion.
The Signal
The three-museum tour underscores Kusama’s sustained institutional priority across Europe at a moment when her market and curatorial visibility remain high. Collectors and curators will note the inclusion of site-specific installations and previously unseen European loans as signals of fresh scholarship rather than a standard greatest-hits presentation. The collaboration also maps a clear itinerary for European audiences through 2027.
