Stedelijk Museum Appoints Jo-Lene Ong as Curator of Buro Stedelijk
Stedelijk Museum announced the appointment of Jo-Lene Ong as Curator of Buro Stedelijk on January 14, 2026. Ong will begin her three-year term on March 1, 2026, succeeding Rita Ouédraogo whose term concluded at the end of 2025. The platform operates as an independently managed, multidisciplinary and experimental space within the museum, established in 2022 in collaboration with the Rijksakademie and De Ateliers. Ong previously served as Curator at esea contemporary in Manchester and Program Advisor for the 12th Seoul Mediacity Biennale.
The Signal
The appointment signals the museum's intent to sustain Buro Stedelijk's focus on experimentation, shared authorship and community engagement in Amsterdam. Ong's record of long-term collaborative projects across Asia and Europe, including work with the 16th Sharjah Biennial and Gerrit Rietveld Academie, aligns with the platform's autonomous position and its support from Ammodo and Fonds 21. The transition maintains continuity while extending Buro Stedelijk's intergenerational and international scope under the museum's institutional framework.
