Tate Britain to Open First Major Survey Exhibition of British Painter Hurvin Anderson in 2026
Tate Britain has opened the first major survey exhibition of British artist Hurvin Anderson. The exhibition, running March 26 to August 23, 2026, brings together around 80 works spanning the artist’s 30-year career, including a room of never-before-seen paintings and the UK debut of the 16-panel Passenger Opportunity 2024-25. It follows a thematic journey through Anderson’s practice, presenting series such as Ball Watching (1997-2010), Barbershop (2006-2023), Welcome, and Jamaican hotel works alongside early portraits and studies. The show is curated by Dominique Heyse-Moore and Jasmine Kaur Chohan.
The Signal
The exhibition underscores Anderson’s position among leading contemporary painters following his 2017 Turner Prize shortlist and recent solo shows at Pérez Art Museum Miami and The Hepworth Wakefield. Collectors and curators will note the institutional focus on his recurring exploration of diaspora, memory, and public spaces, with key works drawn from Tate’s collection and loans that trace his development from Birmingham roots to Caribbean influences. The presentation of monumental new works and contextual screenings signals sustained institutional commitment to his career trajectory.
