Tate Britain to Premiere New Film Installation by Onyeka Igwe for Art Now Series
Tate Britain will present the exhibition Art Now: Onyeka Igwe from September 19, 2025 to May 17, 2026. The show features a new film installation by the London-based artist that explores the University of Ibadan through its tropical modernist architecture and multiple contradictory histories. The work appears in three forms across the gallery: a Perspex sculpture, a slide projection referencing 1950s colonial instructional films, and a digital projection on a cinematic wall.
The Signal
The presentation marks the 30th anniversary of Tate Britain’s Art Now programme, which has previously provided early platforms for artists including Tacita Dean, Ed Atkins and Hurvin Anderson. Igwe’s focus on archival deconstruction and radical filmmaking aligns with institutional efforts to surface postcolonial narratives through emerging British artists. The exhibition is supported by the Bukhman Foundation and curated by Hannah Marsh.
