Tate Liverpool Selects Asad Raza for Inaugural Art Hall Commission Ahead of 2027 Reopening
Tate Liverpool announced that Asad Raza will create the first major commission for the Art Hall, a new space at the heart of the transformed gallery when it reopens in 2027. Raza, born in 1974 in Buffalo, USA, is known for multi-sensory participatory installations that incorporate natural elements and intervene in site-specific environments. The ground-floor Art Hall will present international commissions and large-scale works from the Tate collection, greeting visitors entering from the dockside.
The Signal
The commission underscores Tate Liverpool’s strategy to anchor its redeveloped building with ambitious, environmentally engaged projects that connect the institution to its waterfront setting and northern audiences. Raza’s prior works, including projects at the Whitney Biennial, Kunsthalle Portikus and Kaldor Public Art Projects, demonstrate the scale and participatory approach suited to the new space, signaling the gallery’s intent to position the Art Hall as a destination for large-scale contemporary commissions.
