Thaddaeus Ropac Partners with Leoncillo Foundation for Milan Exhibition
Thaddaeus Ropac has formed a collaboration with the newly established Leoncillo Foundation to represent sculptor Leoncillo Leonardi (1915–1968). The first project is an exhibition opening in September 2026 at the gallery's Milan location. Leoncillo participated in six editions of the Venice Biennale from 1948 to 1968 and his works are held in collections including the Centre Pompidou, Museo Reina Sofía, Guggenheim Museum and Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna. The partnership seeks to expand research and international visibility for the artist who shifted from figurative work to experimental ceramic sculpture after World War II.
The Signal
The agreement positions Leoncillo within the current wave of renewed institutional and market attention for postwar Italian artists including Leonor Fini, Carol Rama, Salvo and Carla Accardi. Ropac's network of spaces in London, Paris, Salzburg, Seoul and Milan provides a platform that can elevate the artist's profile beyond existing Italian recognition. Collectors and curators tracking this rediscovery cycle may view the Milan exhibition as an early indicator of broader programming and potential value appreciation for Leoncillo's estate.
