Sean Scully has organized an installation for the cloister exhibition space at Kunstmuseum Magdeburg, drawing on works from his major series including Doric, Outside In, and Eleuthera. The artist, known for his abstract painting since the 1960s, increasingly expanded into three-dimensional sculpture from the 1980s, creating physical pictorial forms that penetrate space. For this project, Scully systematically reviewed his own oeuvre, selecting works that engage with the four sides of the cloister. His use of color and light was influenced by travels to Morocco and Mexico, leading to vibrant hues and an anthropomorphic conception of color as a physical structure.
