The Facts
On September 8, 2026, Galerie Max Hetzler announced that Thomas Struth has been awarded the Soane Honors Award for Photography. Struth is scheduled to participate in a conversation at the Jeu de Paume in Paris on 21 September as part of the 'Le 7 à 9 de Chanel' series, and will deliver a masterclass on photography at the same venue from 22–24 September. His work is also included in several group exhibitions: the inaugural show 'MATERIA. Wood, Clay, Straw, Concrete' at the LWL-Museum Hellerlecht in Detmold; 'A Thousand Times Berlin' at the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin; and 'Passants parmi les Pierres' at fjk3 in Vienna, curated by Thomas Demand. Additionally, his photograph of Queen Elizabeth II will be on view at the National Portrait Gallery in London, which reopened on June 22, 2023.
The Signal
The Soane Honors Award underscores Struth's enduring influence in photography, while the range of exhibitions—from a museum's inaugural sustainable-material show in Detmold to a Berlin collection anniversary—demonstrates his work's broad institutional relevance. For collectors, the masterclass and conversation signal continued academic engagement, and the inclusion in multiple international group shows reinforces his position as a key figure in contemporary photography.
