Uffizi Galleries Removes Landmark Construction Crane After Nearly Two Decades
The Uffizi Galleries has completed the removal of a 60-meter crane weighing 518 quintals from the square opposite the museum in Florence. Installed in 2006 for the Nuovi Uffizi expansion, the structure was dismantled over six days under the direction of museum director Simone Verde and Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli. The operation restores the historic skyline visible from the Loggia dei Lanzi and Piazza Signoria. A light freight lift funded by approximately 180 thousand euros from private donors including Stefano Ricci and Fondazione CR Firenze will now support continued construction work.
