Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town is presenting a season of exhibitions beginning with Spring Is Rebellious: The Art & Life of Albie Sachs, which opens 24 July 2025 and runs through 31 August 2026. The exhibition traces the shared artistic and political histories of South Africa and Mozambique through the life of freedom fighter, writer and judge Albie Sachs. Additional shows include the first museum survey of Ghanaian-German artist Zohra Opoku opening 11 September 2025, A Protea Is Not a Flower opening 16 October 2025 with responses by Lerato Shadi and Robin Rhode to works by Gerard Sekoto, Bessie Head and Don Mattera, and a survey of African-American artist Cauleen Smith opening 13 November 2025.

The season aligns with Zeitz MOCAA’s institutional focus on contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora, supporting artist careers, education programmes and public access. Programming receives support from the Mellon Foundation and BMW South Africa, reflecting sustained institutional investment in exhibitions that connect historical figures with living practitioners across the continent.
