Exhibition Zeitz MOCAA May 24, 2026

Zeitz MOCAA presents We Proceed in the Footsteps of the Sunlight, the first museum survey exhibition of Ghanaian-German artist Zohra Opoku. The exhibition, curated by Beata America and Dr Phokeng Setai, opens on September 11, 2025, at Level 3 of the museum in Cape Town and runs until October 4, 2026. Opoku, born in 1976 in Altdöbern, Germany, and based in Accra, is represented by Mariane Ibrahim and works across textiles, photography, printmaking, and installation.

The Signal

The survey forms part of Zeitz MOCAA’s ongoing series of research-driven solo exhibitions centering artists from Africa and its diaspora. It maps a decade of Opoku’s practice through recurring motifs of water, breath, and ground, providing curators and collectors with a clear view of an artist whose work bridges European training and ancestral reconnection in Ghana. The presentation reinforces the museum’s commitment to contextualizing contemporary African art within global narratives.
