A4 Arts Foundation Presents Three Curated Projects in Cape Town Through August 2026
On June 15, 2026, A4 Arts Foundation in Cape Town opened three projects under its 1, 2, 3 series, each organized by an in-house curator with practitioner collaborators. Ponte City: Making a Scene debuts the Ponte City Book Towers by Patrick Waterhouse and Mikhael Subotzky, with Lemeeze Davids curating a display of Luminosity that examines the archive produced over four years. Khanya Mashabela curates In Between the motion & the act, which explores agency and chance in contemporary South African photography through interventions at multiple stages of image production. Daniel Malan and Dada Khanyisa co-curate Me, We.
The Signal
The projects position A4 as a laboratory for testing institutional models around artist archives and photographic practice in South Africa. Collectors and curators tracking emerging African photography will note the explicit focus on process and chance, while the Ponte City towers offer a concrete case study in how institutions might activate long-term bookmaking material. The program signals A4’s strategy of embedding curatorial experimentation within its own staff rather than relying on external programmers.
