Exhibition Sadie Coles HQ

On June 15, 2026, Sadie Coles HQ announced that Monster Chetwynd will create Salamander Portal (2026) as a new sculptural entrance on the east side of Middelheim Museum in Antwerp. The portal will function as a gateway for patients and visitors of the ZAS–Middelheim and UKJA hospitals as well as students from the University of Antwerp. The commission forms part of a broader Middelheim Museum project developed in collaboration with children and young people from the UKJA mental health hospital. Chetwynd’s work draws on the salamander motif to explore resilience and renewal.

The Signal

The project signals growing institutional interest in site-specific commissions that directly engage local health and education communities. For collectors it underscores Chetwynd’s expanding role in permanent public interventions that link symbolic imagery with social function. The emphasis on regeneration themes aligns with wider museum strategies that position contemporary art as a resource for mental-health contexts.
