Exhibition Sadie Coles HQ

On June 15, 2026, Sadie Coles HQ announced that Karimah Ashadu's film Machine Boys remains on view at Deichman Bjørvika in Oslo until October 4, 2026. The British-born Nigerian artist, who lives and works between Hamburg and Lagos, examines the informal economy of motorcycle taxis known as Okada in Lagos after the government's ban on the unregulated industry. The work follows a group of drivers who continue the practice for economic independence and records their daily rituals and challenges. It is installed on the fourth floor in the foreign languages department.

The Signal

The exhibition extends Ashadu's ongoing examination of labor, patriarchy and autonomy in Nigeria to a major public library setting. For curators and collectors it signals continued institutional support for film-based practices that document urban economies in African cities and expands the reach of such work beyond commercial galleries.
