Tate Modern Unveils Six Frida Kahlo Murals in Bankside as Exhibition Tickets Exceed 35,000
On June 15, 2026, Tate Modern announced a city-wide programme of public art coinciding with its exhibition Frida: The Making of an Icon. Six large-scale murals created by artists under 25 were unveiled around Bankside on the Thames Path at Blackfriars Station and other sites, produced by JACK ARTS with support from Better Bankside, Network Rail and Oxford Properties as the second iteration of Beyond Boundaries. The exhibition opens to the public on 25 June 2026 at Tate Modern and has already sold more than 35,000 tickets, the highest pre-sale figure in the museum’s history; it is organised by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in collaboration with Tate Modern.
The Signal
The programme extends the exhibition’s themes into the public realm through additional installations including an anamorphic mural and papel picado garlands on Carnaby Street organised with Shaftesbury Capital, plus displays on Piccadilly Lights. Partners cite Kahlo’s influence on feminism, Mexican heritage, queerness and disability as themes explored by the young artists. The murals will remain in place until 2028 while the exhibition runs until 3 January 2027.
