The Facts

Artcurial will hold its 15th edition of the Marrakech auction at La Mamounia on December 30, 2026, offering over 20 works by Jacques Majorelle, including a circa 1930 mixed-media piece from his famous series, estimated at €80,000–120,000. The sale also features Bernard Boutet de Monvel's 'Fès, les toits de Fès el Bali' (circa 1917, estimate €120,000–180,000) and a large oil by Eugène Flandin of Constantinople making its auction debut. A preview exhibition runs at Artcurial Paris from October 1–7, 2026, followed by a pre-sale exhibition at La Mamounia from December 26–30. The auction spans Orientalist works, modern Moroccan masters such as Chaïbia Talal and Farid Belkahia, and contemporary African artists including Barthélémy Toguo, Billie Zangewa, Abdoulaye Konate, and Pascale Marthine Tayou.

The Signal

The 15th edition underscores Artcurial's dominance in the Majorelle market—having sold over 160 works and achieved the ten highest hammer prices in the past five years—and its strategic positioning at the intersection of Orientalist, modern Moroccan, and contemporary African art. The inclusion of a historic Abdoulaye Konate piece exhibited at Documenta 12 (2007) and a unique Corten steel sculpture by Belkahia signals growing institutional and collector interest in pan-African and Maghreb modernism. For collectors, the sale offers rare private collections, notably a Baya work acquired in Algeria circa 1976, and a chance to acquire works from artists whose market records are held by Artcurial.
