Ali Banisadr: Temple of the Mind will be on view from June 26 to November 8, 2026, in the Hemicycle Gallery and throughout the Wilmers Galleries at AKG. The exhibition marks the first time an artist has been invited to stage interventions in the museum’s permanent collection galleries. A focused selection of Banisadr’s work will be installed among Surrealist and Abstract Expressionist holdings in the Robert and Elisabeth Wilmers Building. The Hemicycle Gallery presentation includes an installation of studio materials and an artist-curated selection of works from the collection, ranging from Andō Hiroshige woodcuts and Francisco de Goya prints to the artist’s sketchbooks.

The Signal

The show is accompanied by an audio journey voiced by Banisadr and debuts a new etching produced with Mirabo Press in Buffalo. A short documentary film on the artist is also in development. The title references Albert Pinkham Ryder’s painting The Temple of the Mind, framing the project as a space where perception, memory, and imagination intersect. For collectors and curators, the exhibition signals Banisadr’s growing institutional engagement and offers direct insight into his sources and working methods through both his own works and selected historical pieces.
