Dia Chelsea presents David Lamelas: The Machine, the Argentine artist's first major solo exhibition in New York. The survey spans 1965 to the present and comprises a nonlinear gallery presentation, a four-chapter film program, and a performance series that began with 1416 m3 on February 10. Works on view include recent Dia acquisitions such as Situación de tiempo II (2025) alongside pieces from the 1960s and 1970s; the exhibition is curated by Humberto Moro with Ella den Elzen and organized in partnership with the Institute for Studies on Latin American Art. Additional support comes from Sprüth Magers, Frieze, and the Economou Exhibition Fund, with a special film presentation at Frieze New York from May 13 to 17, 2026.

The Signal

The multi-part project underscores Lamelas's sustained focus on information systems, perception, and the mediation of space and time, themes that have defined his nomadic practice across Buenos Aires, London, Los Angeles, and Paris. By foregrounding both historic installations and recent moving-image works, the exhibition positions Lamelas as a key figure whose conceptual strategies remain pertinent to contemporary discussions of media, mobility, and institutional frameworks. Collectors and curators will note the inclusion of newly commissioned pieces in Dia's collection, signaling sustained institutional commitment to the artist's six-decade output.
