The Facts
On October 16, 2026, Galerie Max Hetzler announced institutional presentations and a monograph for Rineke Dijkstra and Friedrich Kunath. Kunath's first U.S. solo museum exhibition, 'I'll Romanticize This Later', at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, spans paintings, sculptures, installations and a new immersive digital environment; on December 1, 2026 he joins Klaus Biesenbach in conversation at the museum's expansion space. Dijkstra's 'Isabel, Berlin, Germany, June 26, 2003' (2012) entered the Collezione Ettore Molinario, Milan; her work is also in 'Cocktail Prolongé: F. C. Gundlach Special' at Deichtorhallen Hamburg. Kunath appears in 'On Landscape' at Haus Am Lützowplatz, Berlin, and both artists feature in 'L'Heure des Possibles' at Maison Guerlain, Paris. Phaidon will publish 'The Grand Tour', a comprehensive Kunath monograph.
The Signal
The rollout signals the gallery's strategy of consolidating institutional support around both artists: Kunath's Miami survey and Phaidon monograph frame a practice mixing German Romanticism with American popular culture, while Dijkstra's Milan acquisition and Hamburg group show reinforce sustained institutional demand for her portraiture. The multi-city presence—Miami, Hamburg, Berlin, Paris, Milan—shows a coordinated push for international visibility.
