Exhibition Kunsthaus Zürich

On November 3, 2025, Kunsthaus Zürich announced its 2026 annual programme, which includes major exhibitions of Kerry James Marshall, Félicien Rops, Marisol, Vilhelm Hammershøi, and a first-time dialogue between Maria Lassnig and Edvard Munch. Marshall's show, 'The Histories,' runs from late February; Rops's 'Laboratory of Lust' from March; Marisol's first European survey from mid-April; Hammershøi's 'The Eye That Listens' from July; and the Lassnig-Munch pairing from October. The museum will also mark the 125th anniversary of Alberto Giacometti's birth and 60th of his death with new collection arrangements, and present a re-arrangement of the Foundation E.G. Bührle collection starting in late March. Ongoing presentations include Wolfgang Laib's meditative installation and Jeffrey Gibson's site-specific foyer work, as well as Monster Chetwynd's 'Zardoz' head in the Chipperfield Garden.

The Signal

The programme reflects director Ann Demeester's strategy of polyphony and contradiction, pairing historic masterpieces with socially engaged contemporary work. The inclusion of artists like Marisol and Rops, who critiqued gender and power, signals a focus on diverse, challenging voices. The Bührle collection rehang—amid ongoing provenance discussions—and Gibson’s installation celebrating cultural continuity underscore the museum’s effort to position itself as a civic institution in dialogue with current debates. The 2026 lineup also features collaborations with international partners, reinforcing Kunsthaus Zürich’s role in the global art landscape.
