Kunsthaus Zürich Elects Anne Keller Dubach as New President, Reports Pandemic Loss
The Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft, the supporting association of Kunsthaus Zürich, elected Anne Keller Dubach as its new president at its 126th general meeting, succeeding Walter B. Kielholz, who stepped down after 19 years effective June 30, 2021. The meeting was conducted in writing due to Covid-19 regulations; 31% of the 20,522 voting members participated. Dubach received 4,308 votes (67.7%), while competitor Dr. Florian Schmidt-Gabain received 1,648 votes (25.9%). The association approved the 2020 annual report and accounts, and voted to increase membership fees from 2022. Ben Weinberg was re-elected to the board, and Kielholz was awarded honorary membership.
The Signal
The association reported a pandemic-related operating loss of CHF -980,952 in 2020, compared to a profit of CHF 3,899 the previous year, as government compensation could not offset lost revenue from canceled events and educational programs. Despite closures, all exhibitions took place, and membership grew to 20,816 from 19,688. The association maintains high liquidity and did not apply for Covid loans, ensuring the opening of the Kunsthaus extension in 2021 remains on track. A new museum director to succeed Christoph Becker, who departs in April 2023, will be announced before summer 2021.
