Kunsthaus Zürich Reports 513,162 Visitors in 2024, Deficit Reduced to CHF 1.53M
On April 29, 2025, Kunsthaus Zürich released its 2024 annual report, reporting 513,162 visitors and a reduced operating deficit of CHF 1,529,489, down from CHF 1,585,979 the previous year. Ticket revenue rose to CHF 5,534,047, an increase of CHF 977,939, while fundraising and partnerships generated CHF 3,850,486, up CHF 1,762,910. Rental and event income increased 7% to CHF 1,724,919, and membership fees remained stable at CHF 2,651,926 despite a slight decline in membership numbers. The museum said its self-financing ratio remains exceptionally high by national and international standards.
The Signal
The results underscore Kunsthaus Zürich's strategy of increasing earned income to offset operational costs, particularly since its expansion. However, the museum acknowledges that long-term infrastructure and programming demands cannot be met solely through self-generated revenue. The target of a balanced budget by 2027 signals a disciplined approach, but the institution's reliance on a mix of public and private support remains a key factor for its future programming and acquisitions.
