Lehmann Maupin Celebrates 30th Anniversary, Announces Global Exhibition Program
The Facts
Lehmann Maupin, founded in New York in 1996, is marking its 30th anniversary with a year of exhibitions across its galleries in New York, London, and Seoul. The gallery, which opened its Seoul location in 2017 as one of the first New York-based galleries to expand into Asia, now represents 46 artists. It has mounted over 20 debut shows for artists in the US, Asia, and Europe, including Do Ho Suh's first New York solo show in 2000 and Kim Yun Shin's first solo shows in New York and London in 2025. The gallery's program includes solo exhibitions by McArthur Binion, Teresa Solar Abboud, Erwin Wurm, Anna Park, Dominic Chambers, and Kader Attia this year.
The Signal
Eight artists from the gallery will participate in the 61st Venice Biennale in May 2026. Catherine Opie will have two concurrent European museum exhibitions: "The Pause that Dreams Against Erasure" at the Fridericianum in Kassel, Germany (February 14–July 19, 2026), and "To Be Seen" at the National Portrait Gallery in London. In Seoul, Kim Yun Shin will have her first retrospective at the Hoam Museum of Art in March 2026, and Do Ho Suh will present his largest-ever solo exhibition at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, opening in August. Beijing-based artist Liu Wei will unveil four large-scale sculptures for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Genesis Facade Commission in September, his first institutional presentation in New York. Cecilia Vicuña, an inaugural recipient of the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Environment and Art Prize, will debut a new commission at MOCA Los Angeles in November. The year also marks the centennial of the late Swiss artist Heidi Bucher.
