Exhibition Lisson Gallery

Tokyo Node will present 'Tony Oursler: Between Technology and Spiritual Knowledge - Magic, Media, and Art' from July 3 to September 27, 2026. The exhibition surveys Oursler's career, including early works such as 'Private' (1994-1997) and 'Specular' (2021), which features participation by artist Jim Shaw, as well as previously unrealized works and new site-specific installations. A selection of approximately 3,000 archival items from Oursler's personal collection, spanning science, magic, and unidentified phenomena, will also be on view. The exhibition is presented in partnership with Lisson Gallery, which represents Oursler.

The Signal

The survey underscores Oursler's sustained relevance as a pioneer of video and projection art, a field that has seen renewed institutional and collector interest in recent years. By pairing early works with new commissions and archival ephemera, the exhibition offers a comprehensive view of his practice, which interrogates the intersection of technology, belief systems, and the invisible forces shaping modern life. For collectors, the inclusion of rare archival material and site-specific works may signal continued market attention to Oursler's output, particularly as his influence on younger generations of new media artists becomes more widely recognized.
